Sargent Electric Company is a full service electrical contractor established in 1907. Sargent serves all segments of the electrical contracting industry, including client needs in steel-making, refining, chemical processing, foundries and electrical power generation (coal, combined-cycle and nuclear).

History:
In 1893, George Westinghouse and his new Alternating Current (AC) approach to electrical distribution bid against Thomas Edison and his Direct Current (DC) distribution system to energize the Chicago World's Fair. The story has it that Westinghouse bid just 20% of the price that Edison bid and conventional wisdom bet that he would lose his shirt on the project. Westinghouse was not only successful but defined alternating current as the standard for electrical distribution in the newly forming electrical power grid in the U.S.
Three years later in 1896, the first large scale AC distribution network was established serving the new hydroelectric power station installed at Niagara Falls, New York. A short 11 years later Sargent Electric Company was formed in Pittsburgh, PA to support the burgeoning demands of the steel industry in the shadow of Westinghouse Electric Corporation down the street. Sargent Electric has not only prospered for over 100 years of innovation in electrical construction and project management but is only 11 years younger than the electrical distribution system as we know it in the U.S. Quite an accomplishment, and one that we are proud of and continue to build upon.
